Installation Scenarios

DPOD can be deployed in different ways, based on the type of usage and load.

In this page:

Note: None of the following scenarios provide any builtin HA/DR capabilities. Information about HA/DR scenarios is available at High Availability and Disaster Recovery.

All-in-One

single server simple moderate throughput

  1. This is the most simple installation for production environments.

  2. All DPOD components reside on the same server (either virtual or physical).

  3. Performance is limited by the maximum number of Transactions per Second (TPS) that this installation can process. See deployment profiles at Hardware and Software Requirements.

  4. For more information, see Server Installation Modes.

Cell Environment (Federated Deployment)

multiple servers complex high throughput

  1. The Cell Environment contains multiple DPOD servers, in order to provide very high throughput, for customers that process thousands of transactions per second (or more) in their DataPower gateways.

  2. The DPOD Cell Environment includes:

    1. A single Cell Manager (usually virtual), which manages all Cell Members, as well as providing the central DPOD services, such as the Web Console, reports, alerts, resource monitoring, etc.

    2. Multiple Cell Members (usually physical with very fast local storage), which include the Store data nodes and agents (Syslog and WS-M) for collecting, parsing and storing data.

  3. The Cell Environment does not replicate data between the members, so adding more members will not provide any HA/DR capabilities. It was designed solely to increase throughput. Information about HA/DR scenarios is available at High Availability and Disaster Recovery.

  4. All cell environments should go through a sizing process in order to make sure to meet the requirements. Please submit an issue to IBM Support to start a sizing process.

  5. For more information, see Cell Environment Installation.

Developer Edition

single server simple low throughput free

  1. The developer edition is free, under a restricted license, and may be used for development and evaluation only.

  2. It is installed on a small virtual machine, and includes both the operating system (CentOS) and the application.

  3. For more information, see Developer Edition Installation.

Docker Container for Developer Edition

single server simple low throughput free

  1. The Docker container for developer edition is free, under a restricted license, and may be used for development and evaluation only.

  2. It is deployed as a Docker container on a virtual machine or a laptop.

  3. For more information, see Docker Container for Developer Edition Installation.

DPOD Simulator

single server simple low throughput free

  1. The DPOD Simulator is free, under a restricted license, and should be used used for demonstrations and POCs.

  2. It may be installed on a small virtual server or a laptop, and includes containers (Docker) that run DPOD along with gateways, MQ and additional components to simulate a complete and rich environment with real data constantly flowing into DPOD.

  3. For more information, see https://bitbucket.org/montier/msc-dpod-simulator.
