The Developer Edition (previously known as the Light Edition) assists the developer, administrator and technical presale staff to evaluate the product by running a functionally limited edition of DPOD on a workstation environment.

The Developer Edition is not recommended for customer POCs, due to its limited functionality. Instead, use the Standard Edition with the Minimal or Low deployment profiles.

What are the Major Differences from the Standard Edition?

  • The developer edition is free, under a restricted license, and may be used for development and evaluation only.

  • Lower hardware & software requirements (see Hardware and Software Requirements):

    • A single deployment profile only.

    • Only one Syslog agent and one WS-M agent.

  • The functionality is limited:

    • Limited to 10 monitored devices.

    • Limited to 90 days.
After 90 days, you will be redirected to the Product Activation page where an activation request key can be generated.
You may send the activation request key to your IBM representative to request an extension of the license.

    • Limited amount of data collected.

  • The Developer Edition does not support upgrading and it does not get any fix packs.
To upgrade to a newer version, a full re-installation of the product is required.

Installation steps:

  • Download the ISO file from Fix Central (file name is DPOD_Developer_Edition_Appliance_<VERSION>.iso)

  • Download the md5file from Fix Central and verify the integrity of the ISO file previously downloaded.

  • Verify your system requirements, choose the development deployment profile and make sure to allocate the required resources.

  • Prepare your network configuration.

  • Prepare your monitored devices.

  • Perform the Appliance Installation procedure.

  • Review the post installation tasks.

  • No labels
