Kibana Access Limitations
It is possible to access DPOD data via Kibana OSS. However, the following limitations apply:
- Kibana access to DPOD data is supported only as an accessory tool for administrators in the rare cases where DPOD is unable to present the data the administrator is searching for using the Web Console.
It cannot be used as an alternative to DPOD Web Console. - Kibana should be used with much caution:
- Kibana does not enforce permissions (such as Custom Roles defined in DPOD). Everyone with access to Kibana will have access to all the data stored in DPOD, including internal data that should not be visible to standard users.
- Kibana Elasticsearch queries are not optimized the way DPOD queries are. Performing an unoptimized query using Kibana might cause performance and memory issues, that will impact DPOD stability and performance significantly.
- Kibana access is only permitted to Administrators of DPOD.
- The internal structure of DPOD data is not documented and might change between versions of DPOD or the gateway/APIC.
- DPOD team does not provide any support regarding Kibana usage.
- Kibana access to DPOD data is not guaranteed to be supported in future versions.
