Non-Appliance Mode

The appliance mode may be installed on a virtual or a physical server using an ISO file. It includes both the operating system (CentOS) and the application.

  • The operating system is managed by DPOD. You cannot decide which operating system and what version are installed in this mode.

  • Updates to the operating system and DPOD software may only be applied by installing DPOD fix packs.

  • It is forbidden to install any additional packages / software on the DPOD server, unless instructed to do so by IBM Support.

  • It is forbidden to update the operating system or apply any security patches which are not included in DPOD fix packs.

Installation steps:

  1. Download the ISO file.

  2. Verify your system requirements, choose a deployment profile and make sure to allocate the required resources.

  3. Prepare your network configuration.

  4. Prepare your monitored devices.

  5. Perform the Appliance Installation procedure.

The non-appliance mode may be installed on a virtual or a physical server with a pre-installed operating system (RHEL/CentOS only). The application is installed on the pre-installed provided operating system.

  • The operating system is managed by the customer. You may choose the operating system and version from the list of supported operating systems.

  • The customer may apply security patches or other updates to the operating system.

  • DPOD fix packs will only update the DPOD software installed on the server.

  • You may install additional packages / software on the DPOD server. However, third-party software such as antivirus, cybersecurity, monitoring, APM, endpoint protection, backup, etc. might significantly decrease the performance of DPOD and impact its functionality. During the resolution of issues, DPOD support will ask the customer to disable any 3rd party software in order to isolate the issues and verify their source. Support cannot be provided if the 3rd party tools are not disabled.

Installation steps:

  1. Download the CEF file (Compressed Executable File).

  2. Verify your system requirements, choose a deployment profile and make sure to allocate the required resources.

  3. Prepare your network configuration.

  4. Prepare your monitored devices.

  5. Prepare the Pre-installed OS for DPOD installation.

  6. Perform the Non-Appliance Installation procedure.

  7. Review the post installation tasks.

Federated Deployment (Cell Environment)

Federated architecture best fits customers that execute high load (thousands of transactions per second or more) in their gateways.

The cell environment implements the federated architecture by distributing DPOD's Store and DPOD's agents across different federated servers.

  • The cell environment is used for performance, not for HA/DR scenarios.

  • All cell environments should go through a sizing process in order to make sure to meet the requirements. Please submit an issue to IBM Support to start a sizing process.

  • More details and a detailed installation procedure may be found in Cell Environment installation procedure.

Developer Edition

...

  • This mode is recommended for production, as it provides the customer with control over the operating system, including security patches and monitoring tools, which often must comply with the organization policies.

DPOD Simulator

The DPOD simulator is used for demonstrations and POCs. It may be installed on a small virtual server or a laptop, and includes containers (Docker) that run DPOD along with gateways, MQ and more components to simulate a complete and rich environment with real data constantly flowing into DPOD.

  • Use the simulator for demonstrations and POCs.

  • It is free to use, and is provided under a restricted license.

  • See https://bitbucket.org/montier/msc-dpod-simulator for more details. operating system is managed by DPOD. You cannot decide which operating system and what version are installed in this mode.
